Richard K Morgan - NETFLIX - Author of Altered Carbon

Richard K Morgan is the writer and brains behind the incredible sci-fi classic Altered Carbon, which was eventually made into a fantastic series on Netflix.

”The U.S. edition of Altered Carbon received the Philip K. Dick Award and the film rights were sold for a reported figure of $1,000,000 to film producer Joel Silver enabling Morgan to become a full-time writer’

I got the call for this shoot only a few days before the planned date, so as soon as I found out who it was I ordered the Altered Carbon novel, and cram read it as soon as it arrived to make sure I had absorbed it all pre shoot. 2 pages in and I was hooked, and raced to the end in no time. After the shoot I watched it on Netflix and throughly enjoyed that too. What an incredible dystopian world he created, which we chatted about endlessly throughout the shoot.

Richard’s knowledge on Sci Fi was, as you would expect, was unbelievable. I learned so much that day and it cemented my love of this genre of writing and film.

This shoot was for Gunzilla Games, who recently signed Richard to design the backstory and new worlds in game they were working on.

I really enjoyed this portrait shoot, one of my time favourites. The colourful background on the wider shots was actually the peeling side of his oil tank in his garden, which I added some gelled lights to to help it pop.
