Nature Writer Patrick Barkham - Country Life Magazine Feature
It was a joy to get the call from Country Life Magazine asking me if I could photograph Patrick, as (unbeknown to Country Life) he was an existing friend who I had been speaking to literally earlier the same day.
His kids, as well as ours, were at the same forest school at the time, so it was a joy to be able to spend a bit more time with him in his natural habitat already knowing each other, so we could get down the photographs right away whilst still nattering away We had a wander around the gorgeously green Hickling Broad Nature Reserve, which is part of the Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s many beautiful places to explore locally to us. If you ever get a chance to go, you must - check out the ‘what we’ve seen’ board by the ticket office, as it always has something quite unexpected on there.
Patrick is a ‘new school’ nature writer, with published titles such as The Butterfly Isles, Badgerlands, Coastlines, Wild Child, Islander and more recently Wild Green Wonders which has been long listed for the Wainwright prize.
A fun few hours finding suitable spots to show Patrick fully immersed in the wildlife, and I love the resulting portraits!
