An English Heritage magazine portrait commission, for their ‘expert care’ feature to highlight English Heritage’s role in helping to conserve our heritage.
Tim Whiting, the millwright, has invested so much time and effort in this for many years, he is super skilled in a very niche area of woodworking and restoration. Working in the baking heat of the summer and the freezing winter, he does well to endure! Impressive.
“The future of a celebrated piece of Suffolk heritage will be a step closer to being secure this week, as English Heritage hoists a newly-constructed set of sails into place on Saxtead Green Post Mill near Framlingham. The reinstallation of the mill’s sails represents the culmination of a £250,000, year-long conservation project in collaboration with one of Suffolk’s last remaining specialist millwrights, to secure the future of one of a handful of mills in the county still operational”
Tim Whiting is the millwright undertaking the restoration work at Saxstead Mill itself. We are covering the conservation project at Saxstead Mill for the an issue of the English Heritage Members’ Magazine.
